Our COE Celebrity for the week of April 3rd si Joy McCarthy. Joy is a Kinesiology major from Chelsea, Michigan and a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa at Michigan State. Over Spring Break, Joy went to Cuba with 25 other members from MSU CRU. They partnered with Filter of Hope, a non-profit organization that works to help provide clean drinking water worldwide. They installed over 200 filters in two different communities in Cuba. Joy’s said she met a four-year-old named Samantha who suffers from kidney disease due to the bacteria in her drinking water. Joy said, “Despite her disease and living situation, Samantha had the most amazing attitude. When we installed the filter for them, her grandma was very emotional. Now she wouldn’t have to worry about the water she was giving to Samantha.” Congrats Joy.
